"Bendegedig"

Bamjoeh Bendegedig

Bred, owned by and loved by: Steve Ham

Owner of, handled and loved by: Fiona Bennett

Birthdate March 31 2003

Her name means Blessed in Welsh and she certainly is that.
She came to us almost by accident through a friend of a friend!
She will stay at Al Sayad for Open Field Coursing since she can no longer legally do so in the UK
and hopefully her people will be able to get out to California and run her from time to time

Here are some excerpts from some coursing critiques from her novice year open field coursing in the UK.

The Regina Stake for 8 mixed Salukis of all ages. 10 November 2004 in Gloucestershire

In the last run of the first round the veteran cream bitch Al Caliphs Majeda was shown a clean pair of legs in a straight run up the field by another newcomer puppy, the red bitch Bamjoeh Bendegedig. In the first semi-final her brother Bahim ran a very creditable close course behind Nadaa as the hare bent left across the field and into a wood; while his sister Bendegidig held onto Blade in the run up but was then simply bulldozed out of the way as they went for a gap in the hedge.

The Mid-Season Stake for 8 mixed Salukis of all ages. Wiltshire on 18 December 2004

In the last course of the first round in a field of stubble the veteran cream bitch Thalooth Al-Thalaatha and the red bitch puppy Bamjoeh Bendegidig were slipped on a hare to our right. The older dog came out very fast and sticking close to the line of the hare was just ahead as they went out of our sight but the youngster eventually ran out the winner. The second semi-final also required a long slip but Barq went into a quick lead of several lengths from Bendegidig, turned the hare and began working it left and right. The other dog got in but Barq pulled away and turned the hare again left and right but it straightened out and made a dash for the safety of the trees.

The New Year Stake. Wiltshire on 8 January 2005
Winner ? Bamjoeh Bendegidig
Runner-up ? Skidaw Filfil Al-Hamra

We found a sitting hare for the last pair running as a double bye ? the red bitch puppy Bamjoeh Bendegidig and the 2-year-old Zaovate Nadaa Al-Sabah. After an initial spurt Nadaa acted as if she knew it was only a bye and was content to let the puppy chase the hare up the field and out of sight.
(Note from Fiona, this is the personal opinion of the author and it is unlikely that good coursing dogs ever give less then their best or know when they are in a bye run!!)
Bendegidig and Nadaa then had a re-run of their previous contest but this time it was for real. A hare got up and made for some rough grass where the hounds seemed to lose it but it emerged with them on its tail, ran along a hedge, went through with Bendegidig in the lead, which she maintained to take the course. In the final Filfil and Bendegidig were slipped on a hare which ran straight up the field with the two hounds neck and neck to the first bend when Bendegidig had a slight lead but Filfil came back as they went into some rough grass. The hare came out again ran a short way and Bendegidig went by Filfil but she lost the hare in the rough.

The Skidaw Puppy Stake. Wiltshire on 4 February 2005
Winner - Bamjoeh Bendegidig
Runner-up - Bamjoeh Bahim at Talkaccatur (Bendegedig's littermate)

After a long walk on winter wheat the two siblings were slipped on a hare that ran up the field with Bendegidig streaking into the lead. The hare made for a small outcrop of bushes where they turned it around with Bahim taking the lead but only briefly as Bendegidig took over again before they lost it in the bushes.

in slips with her littermate

The "Bollocks to Blair" Stake for 32 mixed Salukis.
17 February for the last meeting not only of the present season but also for the foreseeable future, as the the Hunting Act which among other things bans competitive hare coursing came into effect at midnight that night. After a long walk at last another hare got up to our right for the 1-year-old red bitch Bamjoeh Bendegedig and the 3-year-old cream dog Kenmillto Secret Word and as it turned away left down the hill the young bitch seeming to read the hare's intentions and shot into the lead while Secret Word stuck closer to the original line. They turned the hare back up the hill with Secret Word going into the lead as they went through the hedge but Bendegedig got the flag. We walked across a barren field or two before we started beating out another wood The next course followed the same pattern (slipped uphill and over the brow) with Asira and Bendegedig going close together over the brow and Bendegedig getting the verdict.

We are looking forward to seeing how Bendegedig does in NOFCA this season.
